The 3 Changes I Made in My Life to Live Longer and Be Healthier

by Jonathan Oe

For the past 20 years while I was innovating the sport science built around Compression Wear for professional athletes, I was neglecting my own personal health. After crushing days at work developing and making products, I was stopping off for a couple or more beers at the micro-brewery, waking up to three cups of coffee to get over my hangover. I had two bad knees and a bad back, but I just pushed on - day after day, year after year. Well at some point, my body just gave me a big "F" you - NO MORE! This led to a full right knee replacement (the left is coming up real soon), an arthritic hip and a problematic lower back. And that's how the story goes for many of us.

I  came to the conclusion that I really want to live long, life healthy, and be mentally and emotionally strong well into my 80's or 90's. For many years I have eaten a high protein, high vegetable, low carb diet - so that was good. But to hit my new goals, I decided that I need to make some serious changes - fast!

1) I made serious reductions in my alcohol consumption. I went two months without a drink and couldn't believe how much better I felt both physically and mentally. My mind became so much sharper and I just felt happier every day. Now my drinks are limited to a couple glasses of Napa Valley Cabernet per week.

2) I eliminated the 2-3 cups of daily morning coffee I drank for 40 years and replaced it with a bowl of oatmeal with berries and bananas. My acid reflux went away and the sharp pains in my back subsided. I still enjoy a once-per-week afternoon coffee as a real treat.

3) Physical Training: My body had become so stiff, sore and weak, I began to see a personal trainer for strength training, once per week. Every morning when I wake up, I put on my LEORÊVER Tights. They enable me to walk two miles per day and get through 4 days of gym workouts and other daily exercises each week. I wear the tights all day, as I stand at my desk and work on the computer, run down to LEORÊVER HQ to take care of my tasks there, or walk my dog. Like many of my Customers - I am really dependent on the tights to keep me going.

Before I made these 3 changes, I was really at a moment of despair. Facing the physical toll of aging can be difficult. Many of us work hard our whole lives looking forward to enjoying our golden years. Then we get there and our bodies are too broken to realize that dream. For many of us, there is no one to turn to - you need to decide what is best for you and COMMIT to it. Although at the moment, I cannot play pickleball - I love walking and eating - all over the world. I love watching the LEORÊVER Pickleball Team in action, meeting my Customers, and working with my employees. I love driving my Porsche Boxster GTS Convertible with the top down, soaking up the day. There are so many little things I love that add up to a big reason to stay committed to those life changes I made.
